DCD Baking Mixes often call for softened butter and room temperature eggs. Softened butter creams easily with other ingredients, and room temperature eggs incorporate easier than cold.
How do you know when your butter is softened? Press the butter with your finger. The butter should give easily but still hold its shape. Additionally, it should bend with little resistance and without cracking or breaking.
If you’re in a rush and need to bring butter and eggs to room temperature quickly, here’s what you should do:
- Cut the butter up into ½” slices and then place on a plate. Microwave at 10 percent power for 1 minute and continue to microwave as needed.
- Eggs are even easier! Just put them in a small bowl of warm water for about 5 minutes.
